Ditch the presents this year and show your love for your mom by doing things for her/with her instead of just buying her a gift! I find that mom’s usually appreciate the time we spend with them or things we do for them, way more than buying a gift for them.
Show your love:
1. Do a chore she hates
- Cleaning the floors? Vacuuming? Laundry? Grocery Shopping?
- Whatever is your mom’s least favourite chore, do it for her so she doesn’t have to. Doing things for your mom will give you a greater appreciation of all the things she does for you! Plus, she will probably appreciate more than any gift you could buy.
2. Cook an extravagant Brunch (or at least make her breakfast!)
I’m not sure who deemed Mother’s Day Brunch a staple, but I am very into it. Make your mom a brunch that competes with any restaurant.

3. Spend time together!
Set some time aside (if not the whole day) to spend with your mom/ as a family. Here are some fun ways to spend the day together:
Family picnic!
Go to a park or even set up in your backyard for a picnic. Pack some yummy snacks and drinks, or pick up take-out on the way to save from cooking.
Virtual Yoga/Meditation Class
Spend the morning relaxing and stretching with a virtual yoga/meditation class. You can find these online or many local yoga studios are doing virtual classes.
Hike!
Find a trail you haven’t before or walk your favourite path. Alltrails is a great website to let you know the length and trail conditions.
Paint Afternoon/Night
Buy some cheap canvases and paint from Dollarama and search paint night on youtube. You can find so many different videos with different skill levels. Choose what painting is your favourite and go for it!
Work together in the Garden
Help plan where each of the plants should go and then spend the day planting them together.
Wine Tasting
Buy a few different wines, cut up some baguettes and get an assortment of cheeses. Print out wine tasting score cards and learn some basic lingo to describe them. Then taste test the wines one by one to determine the fan favourite! You can either buy a bunch of different wines, OR buy the same type of wine by different wineries and at different price points to see if price really does determine quality.
